Shops Sealed, Penalties Imposed on Shopkeepers in Kashmir
Tightening noose on erring shopkeepers in Kashmir, as many as 33 shops were sealed by Enforcement Squad of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Srinagar for violation of essential commodities Act since the beginning of Ramadan. Three establishments were sealed during market checking at Lal Chowk, Ali Kadal and Rawalpora in Srinagar for violation of the Essential Commodities Act.

As per an official handout, it was informed that the enforcement team of the department has also recovered more than two lac rupees fine from the traders during the month of Ramdan and in all 33 shops sealed which include Mutton shops, Chicken shops, vegetable and Bakery shops who were selling the items at very high rates other than fixed by the government. Besides three FIRs were lodged against the violators
The market checking drives has been started following complaints pouring in from different sections of the society regarding illegal enhancement of rates by the shopkeepers dealing with different consumable items.
