Reopening of Schools in Jammu Kashmir 2022 | Latest News


As per the latest news regarding the reopening of schools in Jammu Kashmir for the session 2022, the Education Department seems undecided in this regard. The schools in Kashmir have been closed since mid 2019 following the abrogation of Article 370 and then the onset of Covid 19 extended the closure of educational institutions.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Monday said Covid third wave has started to settle down and if the situation improves further in next 15 days, the government will take a call on re-opening of schools and colleges in the UT.

Furthermore, the top officials of the School Education Department have hinted that the schools in Kashmir valley are most likely to reopen from February-21 .

The concerned committee will take a call in this regard. They will assess the ground situation of COVID-19 cases and will take a call accordingly,” the official said.


The official further said, “I think it won’t be feasible to reopen the schools by putting the lives of kids at risk.”


Pertinently, the government on November 30 announced winter vacations for all schools of Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu region from December 6 and 13 to February 28.


The government has said that the educational institutions up to class 8th standard shall observe winter vacation from December 6 to February 28 and the senior classes from 9 to 12 shall observe it from December 13 to February 28.
